Find which blogs are linking to you

I have discovered a really neat Technorati trick I would love to share with you. Not discovered as in I came up with it, but discovered as in found out the way to do what I wanted to do. My dilemma was I wanted a nice list of all the blogs that had incoming links to my blog according to Technorati. Well since they are all listed by “freshness” or
“authority” right there on the Technorati search page it seemed like this would be an easy thing to achieve. Yes and No. Yes it was easy but it wasn’t really intuitive. Thanks to Spidaman on the Technorati forums I was able to find a very nice way to accomplish what I wanted.

All I had to do was use the Technorati API. The API? Yes I can hear the groans but really it is simple. If you have a RSS Feed reader it is super simple, one of my favorite ways to do things. Just follow these steps and you to will have an up to the minute list of the last 100 blogs that Technorati has linking to your blog.

1. Register with Technorati.
2. Login
3. Go to this website: http://technorati.com/developers/api/cosmos.html
4. That page contains a very important piece of information your API key and it shows all the options you can use with this command.
5. Once you have your API key fire up your RSS Feed reader and plug this in as a feed address:

http://api.technorati.com/cosmos?key=APIKEY&url=YOURDOMAIN.Com&type=weblog
&format=rss&limit=100

(Of course make sure you replace APIKEY and YOURDOMAIN.com with the correct values. Little hint don’t use the www.yourdomain.com just yourdomain.com you will get more reliable results)

That’s all there is to it. Now you should have a fully functional RSS feed showing the last 100 incoming links. I did notice that these are not all unique links, meaning if you have more than one link from a weblog they will all show up, but it is better than nothing. I will keep working on this and see if I can find a better way but for now it is a quick and relatively painless way to achieve what I was after.

    That’s a great tip. Very useful. Now all I need is some way to be automatically notified when someone adds me to their Technorati faves :-)
